what are you sowing both inside and out
« on: April 13, 2007, 19:56 »
Hi i am fairly new to the site and also new to growing veg. Something i would find really helpful is to find out what people are sowing and planting at the mo, both inside and outside. I have just sown

                    Winter cabbage (inside)
                    sweetcorn (inside)
                    spring onions (inside)
                    courgette (inside)
                    Lettuce (inside)
                    cucumber (inside
                    turnip (outside
                    parsnip(outside

               Outside i have planted

                   Garlic (small plants)
                   onions (sets)
                  spuds, earlies and mids.

                      Thanks all.
new to this, so all help and advice is greatly appreciated and well needed!!

Inside I have
cherry toms, thriving, nothing short of miraculous really
Rubine sprouts, but they went outside today in their pots and are not thriving so much as surviving
I have just planted dwarf french beans and hurst green shaft peas in seed trays to transplant later.

Outside I have garlic, but may have gone in a bit late given the warm weather,
onion sets (white) and seedlings (red),
spinach
little gems
stir fry mix
lambs lettuce (not up yet)
More peas, some earlies and some maincrop
raspberries 2 varieties, new this year, one lot though have sprouted, may be dead,
strawberries, 2 varieties, all thriving,
sprouting brocoli
radishes
2 tyeps of carrot (also showing no signs of life as yet)
and in another bed I have early spuds (rocket) and half the maincrop (desiree), still have to finish deturfing and digging over the rest of the spud patch.

I have far too many seeds and seedlings but just love growing stuff, much of it will end up at the local primary school fair in june!

I have sown so many toms this year but have taken orders for plants at work,so I can go mad without the worry,I sow two per station and if they`re both strong can`t bear to ditch one!Bit early for me to grow courgettes/squash/cucs as here they would all get too big and need transplanting before the frosts are over.

Well this is my first year as well so I have gone a bit mad:

Everything was germinated inside in conservatory.  The only things left inside are:
Cucumbers (outdoor type)
Marigold seeds
petunia
cone flower
ganzias
osterpermums
trailing carnations
cape gooseberry

Outsidein mini plastic greenhouse:
Marmande toms
Gardeners delight toms

Outside in bed
Cloches been off since last saturday.
Romaine lettuce (chartwell) looking good and strong, doesn't mind transplanting three times.

Little gem lettuce does mind transplanting even once as they are limp and floppy with one or two ok.  Will try straight in bed in a couple of weeks.

Radish
beetroot
rocket tats
maris peer tats
spring onoin
carrots
calabrese
onion white

So far so good, everything seems to grow really well here.  Exciting isn't it.

Hello - my first proper post...  8)

On the windowsill:
Butternut Squash (31 March - going like the clappers - maybe too fast)
Pattypan squash (31 March)
Various tomatoes - planted yesterday
Courgettes - planted yesterday

In the shed (half the roof is that clear corrugated plastic stuff):
Stock
Petunia
Various annual flowers mix
Dwarf French Beans (8 April)
Peas (planted in gutter yesterday)
Russian Tarragon
Basil
Mint
Parsley
Garlic chives
Coriander
Chervil
Herb Dill
Old English Thyme
Dianthus
Various types of california poppy
Viscaria
Gyp
Petunia
Godetia

Far too many annual flowers, but my lovely Auntie got a bit carried away and gave me a whole stash of spare seeds that she wasn't going to plant and I couldn't bear to leave them all in packets! I wanted to get some good herbaceous perennials going this year really.  :? Ah well.

Outside:
Rocket (31 March - germinated in less than a week)
Little gem (31 March - germinated in 10 days)
Salad mix (31 March - germinated in 10 days)
Radish (31 March - germinated around 10 days)
Spring onion (red) (31 March - just about germinating now)
Broad beans (26 March - Germinated last week)
Peas (26 March - not germinated  :(  don't think they will now)
Spinach (5 Apri - not germinated)
Broad beans (planted yesterday)
Peas (planted yesterday)

And I've just got a despatch note to say that my 12 strawberry plants for a tenner are finally in the post. I ordered them over two weeks ago! grrr.

Ooops! I shall try to make future posts a little less wordy!
