Chilli & Tom question
« on: June 05, 2009, 17:25 »
I have tried to upload pics of my Costoluto toms but have given up due to my complete computer stupidness so I will describe what they look like as best I can :) Imagine a palm tree with a bunch of flowers growing out the top! there are no further growing shoots, the flowers are the top of the plant with nothing growing up past them. Have I dropped a clanger somewhere?

Also my Chilli plants are rubbish. They are the slowest, most boring plants in the greenhouse and at 3 months old and 4" high it feels like I can look formard to my first chillies in 2012! Should i be naughty and give them a blast of tomato food?

Just to increase your anxiety, I already have fruit on my chillis :D

Mind you, they were started in january so you have a fair few weeks to catch up ;)

Don't feed them before they get to fruiting stage ( tad like toms ), chillis *really* don't need a lot of feed ... or water. They're slow growers, get a hobby to take your mind off things whilst you wait ;)

jaws8, don't worry, my chillis are a month older but seem to be at the same growth stage as yours. They were very slow last year as well but got a great crop in the end  :D

I sowed cayenne chillis and 'spicey cherry chillis' (Ciliega piccante) and they have both grown to about 18in and the cayenne has fruit on it already....sown in march :)
I also have one tiny purple chilli which now has 6 leaves on it. ( yes, one gave up the ghost Yabba :()They are frustrating when they grow so slowly though aren't they

I've got some pods marked for seed saving if you'd like some more for next year?

I have just added some more compost to the pots so the stems are quite well buried now. Hopefully this will kick them on a bit :) Yabba, i've taken your advice about getting a hobby, but the snooker table does look stupid in the greenhouse

Chillis 4" high you are lucky...mine (sowed early april) the Jalepeno are only 3" and the "superchilli" are 2"

My sweet peppers are about 5" high

My toms (G Delight, Moneymaker & Amature) still only 6" - 8" high

Couldn't be more different from last year when everything romped away no prob

Fed up, confused and hungry  :(

My chillis vary from ten inches high with small fruits on (Cheyenne) to four inches high, nice and bushy 'cos I pinched them out and flower buds just beginning (Bullet and cayenne) and then there's the lanky anheims who seem to have forgotten to flower   ah and couple of purple ones that are two inches high (Thanks Johnny -- they are grwoing away well now  :D but one didn't make it  :( )

I plan to over winter some this year, as I did this last year with one scotch bonnet grown from a supermarket fruit and it's got ripe chillis on it already  :D

Could be worth thinking about if anyone's don't get going til quite late on  :D
