Does yours not have a cradle to rock them then? I would have thought it did.  Mine turns mine automatically.

Sorry i dont have a brinsea am just helping with general incy problems (if im any help) no I got the maino see through incy it really rubbish in the turning department but does keep temp and humidity really even! (better than the cuvatutto) you have to remove the whole lid and im having to turn each egg individually as the tray isnt working properly! If all/most of these eggs fail I wont be so polite in my next email to the supplier of incy!  >:(

I would have still sent it back because it would have been under warranty for a year I presume, or tell them you are contacting the trading standards unless they do something that might make them amke up their mind, in the meantime I would contact the Trading Standards and see what they ahve to say about it after all it is only a phone call.

Obviously something to do with the weight of the eggs not letting it turn rock properly so there fore faulty ???

I would not let this lie till I got a new one that worked properly.

can i ask why the poll? what's it for? re incubation we've broken every rule in the book, i have 3 incy's, one made by Sam (coffin) a covatutto 16 and a brinsea oct 20 (without the turning cradle) we've forgoton to turn eggs for day's at a time (the Christmas chicks and i was blottoed)  Sam forgot when he had set his duck eggs so we had no idea when to stop turning (asuming we remembered anyway) we've had a power cut overnight and warmed the eggs back up in front of the gas fire, we've opened the incy when we shouldn't (to the point where Sam removed his eggs once they had pipped, peered in the whole and had a conversation with the chick) we've let the water resovoir run dry, but....................we still had a very good hatch rate, for the last 16 ducklings in the brinsea we went by the book, 1 egg had perished day's before, 12 hatched without any fuss or meddling by me, so i went to bed, in the morning i had 3 dead in shell, how i wish now i had meddled....................sometimes they hatch and sometimes they don't.

When we have a power cut mine either go in the airing cupboard or the bottom of the rayburn in the warming drawer!!!!

Have been known to hatch them off when a chicken thought she had finished by putting spare eggs on top of straw in  a box on on top of the rayburn (hotplates closed) and been woken in the middle of the night buy a cheeping sound from downstairs even I was amazed!!! then the next night were quietly put back under mum sucessfully!!!!

The dogs thought it was great that the rayburn now emmitted a sound of chicks and were puzzled for days. :D

Hi all.  i have 4 Brinsea incubators and they are all absolutely brilliant.  Here is the basics of artificial incubation which I have had excellent results with: load your incubator with eggs on their side, if not, make sure blunt end of egg is pointing upwards (important!).  Turn off cradle or stop manual turning 3 days prior to hatch date, all depending on you maintaining correct incubation temperature, otherwise make an allowance for this, e.g. if running a little cooler (middle egg temp) they will hatch slightly later.  Anyway, stuff adding water if the air humidity, like it has been lately, is high.  Only if piping hot in summer do I add a bit of water a day before hatch but very rare, just run dry.  That's it.  I have also found the octagon cradle does not really bother the chicks hatch rate much if you forget to switch it off too.  Do not pick any out.  Happy hatching!
