How many Marans to a my coop!!!

Minimum coop (house) space is 1 sq foot per bird 0r 30cm sq per bird.  Perches should allow 12 inches (again 30cm) per bird.  Run space should be a minimum of 1m sq per bird, although most people on here would recommend at least double that.  If the run space is .8 x 1.98 m = 1.68 sq m it is too small.  Hope this helps.

In addition some breeds due to size or temperment have varying needs, marans are a hardy, breed ideal for free ranging and do need a bit of space IMO.

Thanks for replys guys, this is the info on hen house and ill be free ranging them in a garden 20x15 ft as well, i was concerned about the room at night and when i cant let them out!!

I bought one of those when I first got my hens, but for large fowl the run really isn't very big. I only kept two in it and they had access to my garden all day as well.  In my opinion there is no way they are big enough for 4 or 5. I got a shed when I decided to get some more hens and paid a visit to Grannie Annies for some amberlinks but my two original hens decided to keep living in the small coop.

The perches were a complete waste of time and my two wouldn't use them. They always used to sleep in one side of the nesting box and lay in the other side. At the moment only one is sleeping in there as she has gone broody and is now sat on a dozen eggs so her mate has decided to leave her alone and move in with the other girls in the shed. In there she has joined the others in perching high up. If I was you I would see if you could sort out something better for perching but I don't think there really is enough head room to raise it very far.

I thought as much joyfull, i have rounded off a bit of 2x2 so hopeefully that will work!! Fingers crossed, thanks for letting me pick your brains guys!!!.....
