Red lettuce was / is an experiment - not sure how those at home will take to it yet. quote

Let's hope they go for it -- they look brilliant  :D

Parsnip..................just did a stock count of toms got 9 Roma so lots of sauce.  I won't bore you with the list of the others.

Mitsy..............Don't worry yours will catch up I am on the south coast and where I grow them is probably a little micro climate.  High rise next to very hot conservatory and bedroom wall which is painted white.  Round the other side (its a bungalow with the garden going around) another white wall and 6 foot fence surround.

I over did the Tomatoes this year, I've managed to give quite a few away, the rest I've potted   and will make lots of sauce and freeze it...I'm not wasting them thats criminal... :D

Learner your lettuce looks superb, yummy. Mine is ready yet.. :(

My dad had great success germinating tomaotes - he supplied all the neighbours and countless friends who drop by to see him this time of year.  :)

I was a little disappointed to find he had given away all the tomato plants with name labels on especially as I had asked for a few Bambino and Gardener's Delight having supplied the seed. There seemed to just one of these left but who can tell... ???

I now have a mixed host of various larger varieties including plum tomatoes and the massive beef steak types - there could even be one or two that I actually wanted - who knows which is which.....  ::)

Sounds ungrateful as my dad did all the hard work raising them but I want them for growing outside and need something that will mature speedily to beat this years (I hope we don't get it) round of blight..  :(

Maybe Ford market might have some for sale on Sunday, hopefully a bit bigger than the ones on sale in the garden centres at inflated prices.  Or see if you can nick a side shoot of one growing somewhere and plant it.  Its a shame, you'll know better next year........put a big sticker on the ones you want your dad to keep for you.

The big sticker is a good idea.... after the event that occured to me!  ::)

I have just cycled home with another trailer load of miscellaneous tomato plants so must have more than 30 now waiting to be planted... All I need is a kindly farmer with a spare field

I am off to the plot to find room!!

What a list.... :)

I am pleased I decided not to pass all of my tomato seed packets on to my dad.

He grew: Roma, Gardeners Delight, Bambino, Lisse Gross (from Austrialian friends) and one I forget.......

.....but I have half a dozen more seed packets at home unopened each a different variety. If I had passed these on to my father there'd be enough plants for a lawn.

I think he raised more than 100 plants this year and the allotment is filling up fast!  ::)
