I bought crowns last Spring about this time last year and they are excellent. The company I bought them from holds them in a chiller so they do not start growing..

The ones I bought this year had bben held in a chiller too. I planted them out early / mid April and they are now coming up - can't crop them tho until next year, so hope they are happy and grow back again

I would strongly caution against growing anything else in the asparagus bed.  Their roots do not like disturbance so will be affected by digging, or replanting other plants.

Just leave them in their own bed I think is best
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

very true yorkie just keep them weed free and keep adding compost/leaf mould now and again.
feed the soil not the plants

Fair enough thank you, will leave asparagus on its own, its only a small bed anyway, just trying to maximize what little space I have.

brought my asparagus from marshalls 12 crowns, they came just as i was going away for a week bummer [i thought] when i came back they was shooting all over the place,  so got them in in early march[ did think i was to early and to wet] in a well dug over bed loads of composte and fertiliser, egg shells, food scraps, thought last week i had really lost them no movement what so ever!!! BUT then yesterday i get a pencil popping through just like the black and yellow from school  am very happy all the hard work pays of  kept weeding it and throwing bits of stuff on top to sink in,so i tell you all keep with them, some one next to to my lottie planted some out last year and they are blooming awesome,  but  with mine
