Bit of a grotty day here today & looks like the plots out, so I'm just considering sowing mine as I daren't put them out until June after what happened last year!

Like minds and all that. What a rubbish day... Still, I managed to get some Tendergreen sown and a yellow Bush Bean called Creso, which I'm looking forward to tasting.

Has anyone here grown it before?

Oops ! After reading these posts about planting French beans I think I might be a bit early ! Mine have been germinated and planted outside up against my shed  which has netting on it. They are about 8 inches hight and apart from an odd slug nibble seem to be doing ok.They are covered over at night with a bubble wrapped covered frame in case of frost. Fingers crossed !

I quite like grotty days here, DD, as it means I can get my young charges off toa head start (no frosts though) by putting them out on awful days; after all, they're bound to experience both ends of the scale when they're out on the plot!

I like to plant what ever comes in the post and see what comes of it... I tried french beans last year but was completely blown away by runners, so will sow both for decent crops this year  :D

Went for it big style yesterday & sowed well over 200 climbing beans of various sorts, not to mention the dwarf beans, as well as lots of other stuff.

Well, I got bored!

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I got a bit excited this year too and have sown my french beans in my greenhouse 2-3 weeks ago they are coming up very well but I realise they won't be frost hardy, so got to keep them in or under cover til end may/june. does any one plant them out before and if so what do you protect them from frost with?

MIne are under a mini polytunnel/giant cloche , straight in the ground and are all up and looking good. Just throw a bit of fleece over the top of the whole thing if forst is forecast -- remember I am further south than you though  ::)

That's what I did last year too SSB, and beans lived to tell the tale (runners BTW, don't like French but same diff  :tongue2:) They cropped into November.
I'm further north than you vetskh, so fingers crossed. Sow another batch if you're worried - they can still be planted whatever the outcome of your early lot, for an extra crop ;)
