I have just managed to persuade hubby to build me a coop, rather than forking out for a ready made one (he's quite handy with a saw and screwdriver!)
Does anyone have any advice about what to do with the inside - I have read that painting it with gloss paint will stop any nasty mites from taking up residence, but am not sure whether Dulux is chicken friendly!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would say that it is ok as long as it has hardened.

I've painted mine inside and it appears to be protecting it from the damp.  The Cuprinol shades are lovely and they are harmless to plants & pets so are safe .
