Oh C'mon!

I thought I was sorted then!! Spade/Fork at the ready! All I want to do is get going in the best possible way. Think i will take on board eveybodies varying advice and get stuck in as planned, using machinery and chemicals if it gets too much.

ps Richy thanks for sorting out the double entry! Thought i was seeing things!!

Im really thinking about Round up Pro at the moment thats why im looking at the posts Richy how many times did you have to rotovate the plot.  I have access to one just the moving of the machine.
Thanks

A rotivator won't cope with bramble roots if they are over a year old, and even if they are dead they still need to come out. You might as well just dig tham out.

'Soft' weeds like couch grass and bind weed can be killed (eventually) with a mulch of black plastic or, my personal favourite, cardboard. I think pretty much anything that is routinely transplanted can be grown through the mulch, e.g. brassicas, cucurbits, sweeetcorn, runner beans etc.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

It's a bit like creating a stale seed bed kris it takes about 3 months of going over every few weeks just as stuff appears.

I usually do a round up spray, leave till it's dead, burn off the dry stuff then rotovate. Then I'm planting and spot spraying and weed emergence, annuals can just be hoed off a bit quick. Any areas thats not planted up can be re rotovated if it gets weedy, better planting a fast dense growing green manure then digging that back in.
Bramble roots will need digging up by hand.
Woodburners cardboard mulch works well if you can get enough.  :)

i hand weeded a section last year so i could grow a little bit of something, this gives you an excuse to go there more often  while getting the rest of the plot ready
when im with my 9yr old she's the sensible one
