Hi all- When all 5 of our girls are laying I'm intending to sell the excess eggs. Last time I kept chooks was over 15 years ago and things have I suspect changed in terms of the legalities since then (we used to sell goose and hen eggs to the local garage in whatever container came to hand and people didn't mind poo on them in those days!). I know about farm gate sales but want to double check whether I'm right in suspecting you can't sell eggs on in old supermarket boxes? Even if you stick a label over the detailing? Thanks all!

We do. 

A couple of people have saved some for us, so we just rotate them and whatever comes to hand is used. All folks on our street so hopefully not going to be prosecuted. :blink:

Hello shiahtsu,
If a Customer brings along their own egg box(es), that is fine to place your eggs into them for that Customer.
We are supposed to use new boxes for sales.
Also, we must not sell farm gate eggs to cafes, etc.
There is a link to Defra in the first pages of all this, but I have not figured out how to put the link up yet..........  the little grey cells are slower these days!

Ah, so it's more a question of if it's local and friends then who worries. Seems like good recycling to me.
