electric propagators
« on: February 23, 2009, 20:25 »
Today I've been given two electric propagators.  Paul and I have no idea what to do with them.  Do we put the compost straight into them , wait for the soil to warm up and then plant the seeds (were thinking of the cucmbers).  Our seed trays fit in so do we use them ?

Yes, you use seed trays. I use them for the mass sowings of toms/peppers/difficult stuff like celery but don't put quick germinating stuff in the same tray as longer germinating stuff or you will have leggy seedlings that can't be taken out until the slow ones have germinated.

You can also use pots though, on the seed trays - then take out any that germinate as soon as you see signs. And replace with the next pot that needs germinating.

I only use mine for about a month every year. The rest of the time is it not plugged in, but still used for seedlings.
