Electric Propagators?

Who needs them?

Mr. Tight-Wad's inflated tie handle plastic bag.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I do  :)

I love mine, which I've had for donkeys years and use such a lot so they don't owe me anything.  Often just the gentle bottom heat, without the lid, is just the thing to get the seeds germinating.   Most seeds don't require heat though thankfully  :)

I start all my exotic seeds (chillies mellons etc) in a pot with a plastic bag over the top held by an elastic band.
Then just place in a tray on top of one of the radiator covers.
They germinate alot quicker than it says on the packet, and they are goog strong plants.
I then move them to a well lit windowsil until it's time to start hardening them off.

I live in an old house without doubleglazing (or airing cupboard!)  :( and find that my cheapo propagator makes it a lot easier to germinate things that need an early start.
I did manage without one years ago, but everything had to start later..............

So they are not essential..............but often very helpful :)

But NOT for cabbages

I was going to dig mine out today to sow geraniums but the compost from the shed is frozen solid  :D  I shall chip some off later and defrost it in the propagator  :)

I do the same as DD but with Zipper bags, I trap a straw in the end of the zip to blow the bag up, then fully seal also you can easily re-inflate if needs be.

I've done that in the past with re-sealable, but not zipper ones, I'm just using what's lying around!
