confused about manure
« on: February 02, 2009, 10:29 »
ive just put 2 tons of manure over about a quater of my allotment. i was planning to grow potatoes there but one of the old fellas told me this will burn the potatoes and said i should grow them up the other end.
so now im stuck as to what to grow in the manure
would beans and sweetcorn do well in the bit ive manured? what about brassicas? (too acidic?)
thanks for any advice. :)

it would depend on how fresh it is, if you have not dug it in you could try raking the majority off then you could plant your spuds.

If its fresh it will be a bit fierce for most things for at least 3 months. Do not despair. Leave it where it is and in the spring make some holes in it, put some compost down and grow your pumpkins and courgettes. That's what evryone on our site does. You could probably grow your beans too if you make a trench and fill it with soil for the seeds to go into.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
