Gnats?
« on: January 19, 2009, 04:10 »
Hi

I have what looks like gnats in my hen house. They are a bit smaller than the average fruit gnat. When I squash them there is a bit of blood. Is this a parasite? will they harm my hens? what can I do to get rid of them? are there any natural remedies to keep them away?

I have noticed that my hens peck at them and eat them.

Thanks for your help

Hi Cat

Are these critters flying, or just wondering about in there  :?

Hi Sarah

They fly when you disturb them. Otherwise they just sit.

I wouldn't imagine they are doing any harm to your birds :?

There's a link here all about external parasites

If you able to get some sort of flea treatment to pop on your girls then maybe this would help protect them just incase :?

Sorry I'm not much help :(
