is there a right time to buy pol
« on: September 12, 2008, 19:45 »
hi everyone
is there a right time to buy POL if you wants eggs ASAP. If I wanted to extend my flock this year to get more eggs have I left it too late! I would ideally like more pure breeds maybe 3/4 max if I can persuade hubbie its a good idea or should I wait until next year and introduce more then when we will get more daylight hours.
If I decide to go ahead do you have any recommendations for hens that would harmonise with my sussex and lavander arucanas that are productive layers
out of interest is there such a breed that is historically from Wales?
TIA
sue :D

ooh, thats good news, I will have to have a chat to the hubbie then and see if he will agree. he is going to put some of the plastic roofing over the run tomorrow so they will be nice and dry through the winter months as we want them to be happy and comfortable lol

Birds that come POL in the autumn have more laying time in the first year than those that come to POL in the spring. Or so the farmer who I got mine off told me. Suppose it makes sense if you think about it  :D

Well, I agree with Richy, as the Amberlinks we raised from Septmebber last yaer to January 08, most of them didn't start to lay until they were 25-26 weeks old (shorter wintery days!)  But the Babcocks that we raied from April, raised through the lenthening days of spring and summer, some started to lay at 17 weeks!!!!
