Tomatoes and Hanging Baskets
« on: September 04, 2008, 21:03 »
My OH just got off the phone after his weekly call to his Nan, and she told him that she has just tasted the nicest tomatoes ever, and she picked them from a hanging basket!

Any one heard of toms you can grow in a hanging basket? If so, this would be perfect for me, as it would stop my little toddler picking at them too early if he can not reach!

Most bush tomatoes will grow well in that situ, fruit tends to be smaller, a lot of feeding and watering it is. :D

Gartenpearl is a good one.  They grew it on the "Beechgrove Garden" (Scottish gardening programme) this year in hanging baskets.  It seemed to be growing really well with plenty of fruit.

I have grown tumbling tom in 2 hanging baskets this year, i've had loads of tomatoes off them, and there the biggest bushyest(?) hanging baskets ive ever had.  Neighbours were very suprised to see toms in baskets, but they looked really good, nice to have a productive basket rather than just a decorative basket.

I currently have three five hanging baskets full of tomatoes all doing really well so far. I'm growing minibel in them i think, they take a lot of watering and i mean a lot.
Even if its been peeing it down they still need watering  :?

I grew tumbling toms in hanging baskets this year and they were great, far better than my standard grow bag ones. Will be doing loads more next year!
