Hi everyone, I recieved my seed potatoes last week, they are beginning to chit, the sprouts are pale and about 1/4 - 1/2 inch long, is this to early, would it be ok to rub these shoots off and begin re-chitting them, or shall I leave them alone.

We have had a couple of days of hard frost in Bham, and I am not sure when is the best time to plant them out.

Your advice would be welcome.

vron, nope keep the chits on, mine have been chitting for sometime now and they will stay around this length if kept in daylight, as regards planting wait until spring arrives, a godd couple of weeks before the last frost, if they come up then protect them by earthing up or use fleece incase of late frosts, if you have an allotment watch the old boys and try to see when they put there's in.
