New Potatoes....numpty question
« on: January 16, 2007, 20:44 »
As a kid I used to love "Jersey Mids"....

A) Are they available as seed potatoes ??
B) Can they be grown in Leeds???? Or just Jersey??
You can take a horse to water....but a pencil must be lead!!
(No chemicals ......yet!)

Hi - I did International Kidney in bags last year - they put on an awful lot of top growth and not much else really.  I was advised if I tried them again to use older/spent compost as the new compost was too rich.  I don't think I watered them enough either :?   I must admit though that the Lady Christl that were grown on the lottie were much tastier!

I've posted this link before, but it's well hidden in a different sub-forum!!

http://www.thisisjersey.com/code/showarticle.pl?ArticleID=000462

The soil in Jersey where they grow the spuds is no where like the soil over here, in fact it's had so much of this stuff dug in, you'd hardly call it soil now!

I've grown International Kidney here, sadly they tasted nothing like the Jerseys - the answer lies in the soil!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks for all the info!!
If I can get a few tubers I may try it or more likely I will go for a good crop of a more suitable spud...

Thanks anyway!
