My lovely tea!
« on: July 12, 2008, 22:57 »
I've been a long time lurker on here, taking advantage of the excellent advice (sorry!) and though I don't have an allotment, I do have a large garden and love growing vegetables.
I couldn't resist telling you about our meal tonight - wife bought two huge pieces of cod today and sent me into garden to get some stuff to go with the cod - parsley (for parsley source), Charlotte new potatoes (which I tried about a month ago and thought I had a complete crop failure, but tonight got loads from one plant), and our first pickings of climbing French bean Fasolo (never grown this variety before but seems a couple of weeks ahead of my previous favourite, Blue Lake)
Boy was it a tasty and filling meal - hope you all are enjoying the fruits of your gardens/allotments - so satisfying isn't it?
And thanks to you all for the advice I have read and acted upon while "lurking". Hope I can help some of you in return in future.
Phil

thick chunks of cod, yum.  Parsley sauce made with fresh parsley is just magic innit.

I picked parsleys yesterday from my garden.  I'd grown flat leaf and a curly one called Aphrodite, and Par-cel, but had lost the labels and couldn't tell much difference between the Parcel and the Aphrodite til it came to trying it. The Par-cel tastes just like celeriac leaf.  It's perennial and I think doesn't mind an out of the way corner.  Glad to try growing and eating something about different

it's just nice knowing where the veg has come from and having watched it grow i think.

i realised last night that the majority,  in fact all the green veg on our plates was from the garden - brocoli (a first for me this year), courgettes and french beans.  not the carrots or potatoes.  not really enough room for potatoes but it should be long until carrots are ready.

all you need to do now is put a large pond in the garden,  add some fish and you could go fishing too for dinner!   then everything would have come from your garden!!

Even my kids will eat fish with home-made parsley sauce!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
