My plot - lots of pics
« on: July 04, 2008, 20:03 »
I thought I would post a few pics of my plot now that things have finally started to grow!

Here's my onions, harvested a bit early but that storm snapped all the leaves. There's a couple of a decent size though.

My brassica bed, I had the first cabbage last week with butter and black pepper..... absolutely gorgeous. My new spuds are in the background, a long way to go yet.

My strawberry bed, I have a big bowl to eat after my dinner tonight  8)

My sweetcorn with my artichokes in the background. The sweetcorn have flower heads showing, aren't they a bit small??

Finally, an asparagus pea flower, not sure what to expect from these  :?

All in all I don't think too bad for my first proper year at growing vegetables......
First timer, NOT enjoying the backache anymore!

My sweetcorn are not much bigger although no heads showing yet. Still only early July though.
Are you looking for an allotment (full or to share) in South East Sheffield. PM me for details.

Sorry fletch.  Your plot is not right!  You have NO slugs, NO snails and not even a sign of GREENFLY or BLACKFLY!!!  What's up with you???  (Just jealous!)   Well done, looks really luscious, especially the strawberries :D

Hmmmm, I never really thought about that. Slugs I do have, but I use the odd pellet   but I've never had greenfly or blackfly. There's tons of birds around here so I wonder if that has got anything to do with it?

About 80% of my brassicas have bolted.  I planted them when I think they were probably pot bound and too large but nothing ventured nothing gained.  I have about 8 broccoli and 6 caulis that look ok, no heads yet so hope that they might not bolt.

My plot is bolting city!
If you look at the red onions opposite my strawberries a load of them have bolted but I'm just leaving them as the onions aren't much cop and can't imagine they'll come to much. My spinach is about to bolt, as have most of my salads. I can't harvest things fast enough is the problem, but never mind.

About a third of my broccoli (calabrese) bolted, I'm leaving them too as insects love them, but the rest are all starting to produce heads now  8)

I'm loving this time of year, I picked my first courgette today and it seems like every day I go up there there is something new  :)

I've got asparagus peas - I tried some of my neighbours last year which I thought were quite nice, but now I have grown two rows of my own have decided they aren't so nice after all :(   but they're worth growing just for the flowers  :)

Thanks for all the comments guys. I can't believe that this time last year I almost gave it up as it was just a weed riddled mess

Ann, yes I received them (I sent you a PM) I potted them up yesterday so fingers crossed  :)
