Wonder if anyone has experience of keeping Speckledies. We're aiming for a mixed (small) flock of hybrids and pure breeds and were planning on Black Rocks for the hybrids, but someone is trying to interest me in Speckledies. Any views, anyone??

Mine are greedy, skittish and they try and push their weight around sometimes. To be honest, if I were you, stick with the Black Rocks. I find them a much better chuck.

Good Luck.

We had a couple in our little mixed flock. They look nice but don't have the strong personality that some other breeds seem to. They are the only chickens we have had they would never eat out of your hand.

We have 2 Speckadies and they are not as friendly as our Warrensand can be quite bossy but they are good layers but go broody quite a lot.

The speckedy's i had were very nervy and skitish i'd never get any more, black rocks are a much better proposition,IMHO. :)

My speckledy's quite friendly, (much more than the bluebelle I got at the same time who won't let me near), and quite a prolific egg-layer - good medium size darkish brown egg!

thank you very much for all this - I'll have to stop asking questions and just bite the bullet soon - proving difficult to source chickens anyway at the moment!
