hi

wonder if any of you have some advice please

we have planted our peas out and have put holly around them to try and protect them from the mice but they are still eating them (peas are up to around 2 inches high)

any thoughts would be greatly apprciated

Grrrr Grrrrr Grrrr I hate pigeons!!!

I thought ours were being eaten by mice when I started 3 years ago.. but it was the damn flying rats!! fleece is my bestest friend now!!

I agree with Richy, mice are not supposed to be interested in peas once they have germinated, so I would suspect birds or slugs.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago with sweet peas, the next year I grew them indoors in peat pots until they were about 6 inches and they stayed intact - it seems to be the really young shoots they like. I know this isn't always posible in the allotment or veg plot, especially if you don't have a greenhouse or coldframe. I use the biodegradable type of posts now for peas, mange tout and sweet peas coz they don't like to be distubed (I read somewhere).

For climbing beans and sweet peas I put pieces of plastic drainpipe 7-8 inches long over the plants or as soon as sowed ones begin to show. Encourages them to get up to the light and keeps the mice at bay. Also useful for watering - pour water into them them and it's concentated around the plants.
