I bought a de comice pear tree from aldi today coz I love pears but on getting to lottie I find it needs one of two other types of pear tree to polinate it. Is this the case or could i buy another pear tree of same type and would they pollinate each other?

I'm not too familiar with UK pear varieties, but many require a different variety to pollinate them. Either check a web search or ask at a garden centre. A few are self-pollinating but I don't think comice is.

It needs be a different variety that flowers more or less the same time, but don't dispare, look around someone nearby might have pear trees it can be a couple of kms away even (not most ideal) but have a nosie before splashing out.

Always can buy one next year if needed, can't expect much fruit in the first few years, anyhow.

If you google 'pear tree varieties pollination' or words to that effect and you get a lists of varieties that are compatible. They tend to be slightly different wherever you look but you can work it out as Gobs said from earlys, mids and lates.

Did that and now have a list of 3 possible accompanying pear trees that will pollinate the de comice as well as link to nursery that will send me it post haste...thanks )

We bought my parents 2 pear trees for Christmas so i knew the info was 'out there' somewhere !
