we are having a meeting  shortly with our local gardening club to discuss compost as there seems to be some controversy with some of our members to using peat based or peat free so its been decided to have a debate on this subject

so as I'm still a peat based compost user but trying peat free on a trial basis I'm keen to know what actually goes into both peat based and peat free composts as I can see some arguments brewing on both sides so if anyone can give me any info on what's actually in those peat based or peat free bags it would be most appreciated before the compost wars start

As to what goes into the peat-free, or even the peat-based (which may not be 100% peat), it could vary widely between manufacturers.  I bet that no two manufacturers will have identical "blends", and even the same manufacturer will be slightly different from one year to the next.

The best source of information regarding content of the composts would be from the various manufacturers.  The product bags may include an e-mail, or website, or telephone number, or address where you can direct queries.
