Damned blight!!!
« on: August 29, 2023, 18:33 »
Well the dreaded tomato blight has decended onto my outdoor tom's.  I'm trimming off the leaves as they show brown areas (and sometimes whole stems). >:( >:(

Looks like we are not going to sufficient tom's for sauce this year.  Just a few years ago we couldn't find enough to do with our waterfall of tom's.

Cheers,  Tony. :(
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

I go out each morning and cut off leaves and stems affected.  My hope is that the remaining foliage will be enough to ripen the remaining tom's

Cheers.  Tony.

My whole out door crop is gone, still some toms on them but just blight, green toms showing blight and most ripe toms showing blight, just need to be careful with GH now, wont be growing toms out doors again to be honest

I gave up growing normal varieties outside for this reason. Give the blight resistant varieties a go - they are very good. This year I have grown:

Mountain Magic
Cocktail Crush
Rose Crush
Nagina

Cropping like crazy now.

Good morning wolveryeti,
I have made a list of suitable tomatoes also.  It's just such a wrench throwing away all the ones I have been using for so long, well...I might save one or two varieties!

STOP PRESS!  I have just read that a spray of baking soda coats the plant turning it slightly alcoline.  It may be worth a try...           Cheers,  Tony.

I still mourn the removal of Ferline from the market. A “ blight resistant” tomato  ( none of them really are) that actually had some flavour. My Crimson crush last year were very bland.

Baking soda we use to use that 30 years ago for blight on tomatoes ,2lb in a 40 gallon barrel then fill a knapsack and spray it on , another use ful tip for Baking soda it cleans and neutralizes knap sack sprayers (you didnt hear that from me ) I have to use proper stuff that's extremely expensive  jezza

I've made a solution of 1 heaped tsp of bicarbonate of Soda, a good dollop of Neem Oil and a sprinkling of Lux Flakes.  Applied this morning early on, I shall be observing...

Anyone heard of planting by phases of the Moon ??

Cheers  Tony.
