Celeriac planting
« on: April 27, 2022, 07:54 »
My Monarch celeriac, sown in mid-January, is about ready for planting but the night time temperatures here are still around 4 or 5 degrees. Is it advisable to hang on for a few weeks, or will it be OK, suitably hardened off and maybe with a little protection?

You're pretty much at your last average frost date now, but if you've had them growing for so long I personally wouldn't risk it for the sake of another couple of weeks, just to lose the lot to a rogue late frost.

I'm very jealous, started late this year and haven't managed to get mine to germinate yet, mind you took ages last year too....

They were sown in an unseasonably warm spell and covered with a propagator lid, which probably helped. If it's any consolation they took ages to germinate, too!

Pretty much what I was thinking. I was hoping to avoid having to pot on 50 or so plants before they become module-bound. I guess they could go in bigger modules, which would be a bit less hassle.
