Rubarb
« on: March 04, 2021, 14:47 »
just bought a new rubarb crown just wondering should I put any fertiliser or compost in the hole when I plant it . My other plant didient do well it was planted near a water tank and people used to leave it running so the ground got waterlogged .  Is it true you cannot eat  it  the first year second year you can .

Rhubarb will love some compost when you plant it. Pretty hungry. General advice is to not take too much of it in year 1 if at all. Helps make year 2 a bumper crop

I planted out two new crowns this winter. At the bottom of the hole I dug out I sprinkled some blood, fish and bone and a few chicken manure pellets to make sure there are plenty of nutrients to get the crown going.
