Am tempted to put hubby in the shed and Ronnies (all ours are called Ronnies, short for Veronica, don't ask long story) in the house. At least it would mean less football and Rugby on the telly

The saga of my poorly chicken Rudolph goes on. She is still with us, due to her coming out of the shed like a heat seeking missile yesterday morning and stuffing her beak into her breakfast like she hadn't eaten for months!  I had another look at her and another good inspection and think she may have an egg stuck. I can feel something suspiciously like an egg, so after looking in my chicken book i tried holding her over steaming water for several minutes (much to my daughters amusement) and then last night dosed her with a teaspoon of cod liver oil.  Will let you all know what happens.

If you think she has an egg stuck try some lubrication.  Vaseline or KY (a disposable glove might be handy  ), but be careful not to break it inside her.  If she is a valued hen then a trip to the vets might be in order to check her over.

Keep us updated  :D

Fellow chicken friends, I'm afraid I have bad news concerning Rudolph! the poorly chicken.  I did as suggested with some vaseline and gentle pushing but whatever it was would not come out.  Had another good check all over of her and OH noticed some creepy crawlies on her! (But nothing on my other chickens), after some decision on what was the kindest thing for her, we decided it would be best for her to send her to the big chicken run in the sky.

OH did the decent thing last night.  Sad to see her go but she had approx 18 months out of her battery cage, being free range and producing lovely eggs so don't feel guilty for prematurely ending her life.

RIP Rudolph!
