[B]I have a poorly chicken (about 3 years old) - sits quiet all of the time with head tucked in.
Her brown feathers have turned very light and beak and bit on head are now light pink instead of red.[/B]

She stayed in bed this morning.

Any ideas ??

unfortunately it sounds to me like she is coming to the end of her time  :cry: is she or has she been eating well lately, is she on the thin side.

Can I ask how best to dispose of a hens body if it dies of old age or illness, not sure whats best/safest :oops:

bin it in plastic bin bag or bury it .. 2 ft down   i boil min eup and feed them to the dogs / cats when ive got the meat off . down to choice

not cremation then for one died of illness?

if you have a bonfire going then you can burn it but i just bin em or boil em up after skinning em.

I don't think my garden can take any more burials of pets !

So its either a BBQ or in the bin....now I have to decide which bin..recycled paper green bags, cardboard and garden in the green wheelie,  or the normal rubbish in the black wheelie !!  

If the kids will let me I'll just bag it and stick it in the normal waste. The council take anything if you disguise it well enough anyway. Just have to make sure it doesn't start squarking again.

Chicken died yesterday afternoon. No tears - it had a good life.

I suspect it was older than I thought as it was given to us as a replacement for one our chicken sitters ran over in their car !!!

At the time it looked the same as the others, but it was obviously older. Hence why the egg production dropped off too.

Got to get some new ones now - does anyone know of hen sellers near Cardiff ??
