Squirrels and onion bulbs
« on: June 08, 2020, 13:18 »
I have gotten the builds to the stage where the shoots are about 20cm and large. And still these squirrels keep digging and biting them.

I am beyond angry after getting them this far.

Any tips a parts from netting to cover.

Technically by law you are allowed to kill grey squirrels. In fact if you catch one you must dispatch it .....but this must all be done humanely!! How to deal with the problem depends on where it is, if it’s a problem at home you could call in a professional to deal with the issue probably with a special trap. Regrettably I reckon on an allotment you are limited to covering the crop as use of poison etc could be dangerous to other wildlife etc. My crops at home have been attacked by grey squirrels so I feel your pain. I just accepted it and balanced it against the plus of photographing them. Good luck
Keep digging
