Liming Soil
« on: February 09, 2008, 19:18 »
Hi

I was told today by someone at my Lotty that I need to lime the soil when planting Brassicas, but they did not tell me how.

How do I do this :?:

Thank you  :D

One way you can do this is on planting them. Thing is advised to have several months between manuring and liming, most people don't bother though on our rich clay soil. :)

Ask others at your lotty who plan to grow brassicas whether or not they bother liming, especially the people next to you. Soils often run in veins, one side of an allotment might be neutral, another side more alkaline or acidic. No way of telling except by asking the experienced people or doing a home soil test. Most plants prefer neutral soils.  For some gardeners its simply a habit to lime whether the soil really needs it or not.
