Glyphosate
« on: October 25, 2017, 19:27 »
Well it looks as though the EU have given the go ahead for this to be banned, according to a report in today's Express, the reports states that it is to be banned and phased out within the next 5years.  :(. The report that they acted on came from the World Health Organisation stating that it caused cancer, however the cancer agency of WHO are disputing the findings within the report and dismissed it's final conclusion. Eh?

Seems like it's not a done deal yet, according to The Independent and Guardian today.

I don't like using it anywhere near my veg growing area.    It was linked to Alzheimer's at one point. Dunno,if it still is

Whatever happens, I'm OK. I bought 5 litres of Gallup 360 Concentrate a year ago. At my current rate of usage (I keep it well away from any crops) I reckon it'll last me 15 years

Guess what Alanine, SNAP!   :D :D :D,.  But who would want to spray it anywhere near crops? This may be part of the anti argument of crop contamination.

I suppose some people use it at the base of fruit-trees and bushes to keep the ground clear. I use it mainly to initially clear ground and then for the paths, borders and perennial beds. Also to keep the pavements and gutters outside our house clear (probably doing the council's work for them!)

Never had a reason to use it at home, but for allotments, overgrown heavily weeded areas, haven't found anything better, even managed to get rid of some Comfrey with it!

oo" I cant wait to rid of those comedians in the EU we mite just get back to normality then ban this ban that if we where out then this wouldn't even be on the table >:(

I pleased someone bothered to put this topic forward so I can now order plenty of roundup and store it in the shed and at the same time put two fingers up to those across the water

how many garden aids have been banned since we got ourselves mixed up with that lot and the rants going  on about using slug pellets that contain metaldehyde that I only use under cover when my farmer friends plaster the rape fields with it o" perhaps some  told the birds and wild life not to eat  out of that field  :D

so first thing in the morning its a telephone call to my suppliers 25 ltr roundup please as for the EU please accept
the Harvey Smith from me

thanks engineer for that topic without that I mite have missed out ;)

But what are you going to do when it is illegal to use glyphosate and you still have most of a big bottle left in your shed. Glyphosate colouration on plants is so distinctive it will be no good denying you have used it. The plant police will soon round all you lot up.

Do you really believe that if we are out of the EU harmful chemicals will not be banned? Who do you think sits on these committees, yes, that's right, a bunch of Brits.

By the way, are you still using DDT, derris and organophosphates?

I'm going to lock this thread as I think it has run its course.

If you do plan to use glyphosate in the event of a ban, please do read the label, follow the instructions and use common sense.
