They are usually a banana shallot shape but in a very good year can grow big like this  :D

90% of my long red Florence came up like that ! Do you find that they are a good keeper ? I may use my ones first if they don't keep. I have used a few and they are a very crisp onion.

I've grown them and find that they don't keep well at all - probably because, as MoS says, they have thick necks and aren't easy to dry thoroughly. I now tend to sow them to use as a rather large spring onion.
