How long to pick asparagus?
« on: May 30, 2016, 13:16 »
This is my first year of picking my asparagus and I've been picking since early May. How long do others cut before allowing the plants to recover. My plants are very strong, and could probably have been cut last year, but I thought I'd wait to be sure.

After searching online, I've seen anything from 2-3 weeks to 8 weeks?

Absolutely loving the asparagus, hadn't really tried it before growing it, but it's gorgeous and fills a bit of a bare gap in veg production after the PSB  :D

Traditionally asparagus is picked until the longest day, June 21st. That is regardless of whether the season starts early or late. The important thing is to give it plenty of time to grow fronds and build up reserves for next year. As they are young roots maybe stop a little sooner.
