I have just managed to pick up my Silver-laced Wyandotte for the first time in 3 months; she is a very weighty girl.  Should I be worried that she may be overweight?  Should I weigh her, and how much should she weigh?

I realise I should be checking her more often.  I struggle to catch her, but have (belatedly) worked out I can check her at night when she's in the hen house.

She should weigh around 6lbs.

My goodness.  Just weighed her, she's 8lbs.  Shall now google, 'How to diet a hen'.  Hopefully, summer and more free ranging should slim her down.

I have a bantam silver laced Dottie and she is heavier than all my other hens.  I've had a couple over the years and they do seem to be a lot chunkier than some of the other colour variations.

Mine is 10 years old this year, so it hasn't done her any harm being hefty, but if you think yours has just gained weight over the winter, it could be time to drop any treats or corn and get back to a basic diet for a bit
