Hi,
My friend was sold three light Sussex hens yesterday, but on closer inspection I believe one to be male. The tail feathers are longer and drooping down with a green sheen, whereas the other two have shorter dull black tail feathers, it is also showing more signs of aggression, has a larger comb. Please can someone confirm or otherwise, as she wasn't planning on keeping a cockerel so we need to get it sorted sooner rather than later.

the dark neck feathers look pointed - get your friend to compare them to the other hens and if they are noticeably more pointed then I would also guess at a cockerel. also are the legs thicker then the other birds legs?

Hi, it certainly is a cockerl compared to the three Light Sussex girls I have (no around 26 weeks old). They do not have long tail feathers like shown in your picture and as you already said, the others have dull black tail feathers.

I add a picture of one of mine so you can compare a 26 weeks old with your young guy. Hope it helps.
