Anything that's woody can go in the bean trench

I did that with spout stems and they looked untouched for being laid in the trench for 6 months in May when I planted the beans

Only that I'm likely to dig them up again this year when I do the bean trench

I tend to slice them up either with my pen knife of put them on some hard ground & chop them with the spade on the diagonal then add them to the compost bin & never see them again.

I've now leant that making sure all the contents of the bin are cut up and getting the layers right plus a drop of comfrey and wee is the key to keeping the bin active
