Strange potato phenomenon
« on: July 17, 2014, 10:50 »
I planted some Lady Christl earlies this year and had them all back in June. They were lovely white, creamy new potatoes. I gave the same seed potatoes to our daughter who planted them in a newly dug patch in their garden. As they planted a bit later and the ground was not fertilised they were left in the ground longer than ours and they have only recently dug them up. However what they have are nice 'red skinned' potatoes. They say they taste nice, but I found this a bit odd.

Does anyone now if this is a usual phenomenon and is it due to being longer in the ground or different soil conditions? ???

How peculiar. Were the pots from the same bag you used? If not, could the bag they had have been mis-labelled?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Skin colour can be affected somewhat by growing conditions but I must admit that changing from white to red is a completely new one on me.

Did your daughter grow other varieties too and possibly got them mixed up?
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

No, she only grew the ones I gave her.
It's a mystery! Maybe it's a miracle, as they say they taste great. ;)

Sounds interesting, If it was me I would save a few for next year, and plant them and see what you get, either red or white potato's!!!
