Urine and lawns
« on: June 23, 2013, 22:03 »
My husband just said his uncle used to store his urine and would water his lawn with it!! Now I know wee has nitrates in and understand the nitrogen cylce a bit. He said it has to be man wee. Is there any truth in this??

It is supposed to be very good for the lawn. You are supposed to dilute it. I have heard the male thing too, but have not seen anyone provide any evidence to back it up. I use female wee on my lawn and in my compost and neither seem to mind. I have also heard it said that you can use it to mark areas to keep cats away and with that too they say man wee. Again, I don't know if that works or if there is any evidence for it - although in the case of cats with their good sense of smell, I guess they might be able to discern a difference. They certainly know when my lawn has received a treatment! :)

I use it on mine. Keeps the lawn nice and green. Can't say as I've noticed any success in keeping moggies off though.

 Well, well well!! I use it in my compost but never heard of it being used on lawns. Does it kill the weeds in the lawn?!!! need to get a bigger bucket.

If you have a swing you could have a cutout in the seat bottom so that with a vigorous swing you could get much greater coverage.

Man wee will probably have male hormones such as testosterone; as to how that affects the lawn grasses as opposed to female wee with oestrogen and progesterone hormones remains to be seen. Perhaps male wee grass, especially if fuelled by beer or lager, will grow more aggressively and resent being controlled, especially if mowed by a female. A spell of man lawn flu' may also present problems which will then make more demands on the female gardner such as daily TLC, nightly brushing with a soft broom to get rid of unwanted detrius, and continuous nutritional feeding. Female wee grass will probably grow more sympathetically with the season, be more tender and luscious - the effects of wine here cannot be excluded, but is understandable; however, it will be more prone to variations in response to the usual weekly treatment which cannot be predicted, though certain elements such as an additional summer feed at the full moon, a more watchful eye to spot problems and nip them in the bud, and a special manicuring to stop the edges fraying would be advisable.  :tongue2: :)
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I am starting to potty train my toddler (16mths) and he regularly wees on the grass. I am pleased it's good for the lawn. I was worried as I have seen female dog wee burn holes in the grass.

Actually, you can try writing your name on the lawn with it. Just make sure it's not in the neighbour's wife's handwriting!
