Thats nice to know. So really its all about the worming (flubenvet and/or cider apple vineger) and maybe the odd clove of garlic in their water. Does anyone get involved with vaccinating them here? I think mainly against mereks.

I don't vaccinate. They can still get ill even if vaccinated, though not usually as badly. Vaccinations, I feel, came in because of the unnatural way the commercial hen farmers farm. Chooks kept well in a backyard with excellent housekeeping should be fine. There are , of course, always exceptions and again it is down to personal choice. Vaccinated and non-vaccinated birds should not be kept together.

To use most vaccinations they have to be done at a very early stage, within hours or days of hatching. You can only buy it in large quantities

I have vaccinated and non vaccinated birds together.  It is hard not to when you buy hens in and hatch yourself.  No problems so far.

I believe the vaccination it self needs to be used within a certain time from opening so it makes it difficult even for large breeders.
