What to use camomile for?
« on: December 03, 2007, 12:16 »
I did post this question in the cooking forum but I also thought there may be some garden uses as well

I have grown camomile for the first time this year and It has gone nuts - I know that you can dry and use the flowers but is there anything I can use the leaves for?

I do not know any other specific uses for them.

A camomile area is a good slug trap though, just have not worked out how to finish them there.

Old wives tale has it that it's generally good for the plants and the garden, I use cuttings as grass for mulch and compost.

No, I 've never heard of that.  Well, I'm not DD, I just think you hoping as you get more leaves than flowers, but GYO is not the easiest business in most of times. :)

In dry areas, some people make cammomile lawns rather than grass lawns. Other than that, I'm drawing a blank.

Isn't lawn chamomile a different variety though?

 Ta, Rob.

Yes, there is a low growing, ground hugging, flowerless variety much more suited for lawns.

Well, I checked my herb book Dell, and so it says, that flowers and leaves can be used in infusion against insomnia and ?? as a spray to prevent fungal diseases and damping off in seedlings.  I've never tried though. :!:

Not that bit! It is very affective against insomnia and other things as well.

The leaves, I never used the leaves in this way, I thought, that was the question, what to do with the leaves. :)

I often drink tea made from the dry flowers you can also put them in a muslin bag and soak it in your bath water, carful you don,t fall asleep in the bath though. you can instead of drinking the infusion ( available in teabags) bathe your sore tired eyes in it, I can fully recomend all these uses
