Alternative Flowers & Vegetables
« on: February 25, 2013, 16:46 »
Hello Grow Your Own Fans

I’m a voluntary member of Shepshed Community Plan - Events Working Group and we are in the process of arranging a Show with a country fayre theme, in Shepshed, Leicestershire, on 15th June 2013.

One of the events we are considering is an 'Alternative Flower and Veg Show/Competition' mainly to introduce and encourage young people, but adults also, to gardening; obviously by using a fun element.  As well as looking for 'judges' we would welcome some advice and suggestions, and volunteers to get involved.

We have been advised by an experienced gardener that June is probably not a good month for vegetables, so the 'alternative' would need to be a wide spectrum of ideas on vegetables but to include flowers.

We are all volunteers and any proceeds would be put back into community events but we would welcome anyone who is interested in having a stall or raising money for charities, with hopefully a contribution of any proceeds to our cause.

If you feel you can contribute any ideas, or get involved in any other way, we would be most grateful; maybe act as a guest judge promoting your own cause/club/society - please respond to my post.  The moderators (Aunt Sally) have agreed to this post and full details of the Shepshed Show will be advertised on allotment.co.uk asap.

Many Thanks
Lyn
