help advise needed re flubenvet/eggs
« on: February 03, 2013, 12:59 »
Help!
Despite the fact that the calendar clearly says Vermex for the chickens, other half gave them flubenvet but also managed a double dose to what they need! (They had their flubenvet last month).
Will the eggs be ok if they've had a double dose - know that usually you can eat them....
Assuming it won't really do the birds much harm tho will be keeping an eye on them
thanks

I think the only way you could be sure would be to contact the manufacturers.

My gut feeling (excuse the pun!) is that they may well be safe to eat but it may be best to put the affected eggs aside & see what the manufacturers say - Janssen Animal Health

Any news? I'd be interested to hear what they said if you did get in touch?

In their research online I seem to remember them saying they gave chx x50 recommended dose with no ill effects - but that was for the chx - not their eggs for us humans!

A recent article in Country Smallholder by poultry vet Victoria Roberts said that recent research suggested that eggs should not be eaten when Flubenvet was used

I know they say not to eat the meat until 7 days after treatment.  I wonder what she is basing her suggestion on?

haven't had reply yet... hens did go off their food for about two days but they have laid all week and have been eating normally for last few days. To be on the safe side we have ditched their eggs so its now been over a week since they had the flubenvet.
Going to get other half to try them tomorrow - if he gets sick we will know not to eat them  :tongue2:
Definitely not a mistake he'll be making again!
