cream substitute
« on: January 06, 2013, 17:49 »
Hi I have a Turk's Turban which I am hoping to make into soup but all the recipes include cream and I want to substitute it for something less fattening as I also want to lose weight this year.  What can I use instead - is it creme fraiche??

Cheers

You can get reduced fat creme fraiche, which tastes great, otherwise perhaps yoghurt. :) The full fat creme fraiche will be as bad as cream. ::)

I don't put any cream in my soup - try it without, you may be pleasantly surprised  ;)

Thank  you - it was the low fat creme fraiche I was thinking about but I think  going without is the better idea for my waist line so what I will do is make the soup and do a 'chef test' and see what it tastes like first.  and looks like - as cream generally makes soup look nicer. Then I can add the creme fraiche if required - its easier to add in then take out.  Now to find the recipe !

cheers ;)

I prefer my soup without any cream etc, added, but milk will also give a creamier taste and you can use semi skimmed too :)

I too just add some milk to my soups rather than heavy creams.

potatoes, lentils and butter beans purree down to a nice creamy texture worth a try, or almonds a few calories but a healthier more nutricious fat.
