Hi

Some of you may remember me asking about Shirley foxgloves.

I was going to try sowing them undercover in the autumn, well just an update, a few have germinated and are looking a very healthy green, in fact some of my best looking seedlings ever.

Just need to see what happens if the snow comes.

I have some peach flowered ones too, that are rather nice little plants now too  :D

Might be the year of the foxglove, eh, spottymint  ;)

Lets hope so, this wasn't the year of the tomato, that's for sure.  :D

Late summer to fall is a good time to start foxgloves, which are biennials. They grow the first season and flower the second. Most varieties die off after flowering and seeding, but a few hang on for another year or two. Gorgeous plants that earn their space.

Sadly the peach flowered ones I grew never seeded themselves, so they've all gone now  :(

Nothing in my garden seems to self seed, even if I sprinkle 1000 seeds, ie poppy, aquilegia or foxglove.

:D Obviously you haven't planted borage or calendulas. I have to ruthlessly rip those two out as they're overly generous at reseeding and are everywhere, literally. At one point my sister had so many calendulas popping up everywhere that she had to use glyphosate on them.

Only had calendulas self seed in pots of compost, never in the soil.

Only thing which has had any success is Polemonium (Jacobs ladder and Labrador Violet) but neither have become invasive. (most die after one season)

My soil is sand & the rear garden very damp & shady most of the day on one side & the wind channels around the houses and across my garden.  :(
