glad it wasnt just me
« on: December 31, 2012, 00:49 »
I'm happy to say that having read some of the responses to various questions on here lately, I feel abit better.  As some of you may know last year was only my 2nd year growing my own veggies and the first year didnt go too badly, I had lots of brasicas and potatoes, a few tomatoes and lots of peas and beans. (well for me any way) But last year was awful, I bought a poly tunnel and planted lots of toms, peppers and cukes which started off well with lots of greenery, I didnt get a single pepper or tom and only 2 cukes.  I think maybe I planted too many in a small space and as others have said the weather was against us.

I've spent tonight listing my seed packets and looking at growing only what we eat and not expecting to be a contender for the good life.

So I'm sorry you all had a bad year but glad you made me feel better about having another go!

Thanks

Julie

Some years gardening is like betting on a sport: sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. When you're dealing with nature there are no 'absolutes'; you've simply got to deal with whatever you get the best you can. Even for seasoned gardeners we can sometimes have very poor results.

The good part is that there's always next season.

The past 2 years have definitely been a challenge for those just starting out - first a drought followed by floods - so anything in between can be considered a bonus LOL.  Good luck for next year - I have high hopes that it will be a good one  ;)

I've been trying to find out the long range weather for set for 2013 initial thoughts is it should be a good warm summer but we shall see.

I was so gutted this year when all my toms split open due to a week of soild rain. They were the only thing that had grown well at home in the hear all my beans got too we and died too.
