Allotment help!!
« on: April 13, 2011, 18:40 »
Is it best to plough and rotavate the allotment on the same day? or wait once ploughed for it to dry out. Plus will chicken * work as good manure for Potato growing? also last year had a serious chickweed problem is there any soloutions to keep the chickweed down obviously plenty of weeding will help but is there any sprays etc that i can use that will not effect our crop?? .

That's a lot of questions in one post

1. No reason why you can't rotavate immediately after ploughing.  Just make sure you've removed all perennial weeds before you do either.

2. Fresh chicken poo will be too strong, it needs to be rotted down first.  Otherwise it's OK.

3. Chickweed - hoe, handweed, or weedkill.  As long as the weedkiller doesn't spray onto any other crop, it won't affect it.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

How about giving the chickweed to the chicks?
