   Just had a look at my strawberry bed and some of them are in flower and have berries on them.
    I didn't think it was warm enough for them,we have had some cold nights here and some frosts.
    I know it will be too cold for them to ripen, but why are they doing this

It's the very odd weather we've had this year, particularly the warm prolonged weather this autumn / early winter.

Rather than start a new thread thought I'd resurrect this one, the recent warm/hot weather has sent my strawberries into over drive out of 60 plants I'd say a quarter are flowering, 2 weeks ago I thought they were looking a bit sorry for themselves after there winter haircut.

I took some gooseberry cuttings last year, one is no more than 3 inches tall with 3 leaves and 2 flowers! Go figure!

It seems such a shame to pull them off, but I've got no option.

I rescued a gooseberry bush from some overgrown brambles on a neighbouring plot during the winter and claimed it, it's going great guns leaf growth wise (putting my red, black and white currents to shame) but we'll wait and see if I get any decent fruit off it I think it's been getting straggled by brambles for a fair few years.

I noticed yesterday some of my strawbs have flowers - its mad!

Some of mine are flowering too - bad news if we get a hard frost while the berries are forming I'll have to have the fleece handy!

It just goes to show there's no such thing as 'normal' weather. There's just weather and as gardeners we have to try and make the best of it.

All my tatties are now in the ground....a couple of weeks earlier than 'normal' but I couldn't let all that sunshine go to waste.
