A very very very small egg!
« on: July 11, 2012, 08:03 »
Morning all.  I quite often get 3 eggs from my 3 hens, but yesterday 2 normal size eggs were laid plus an egg with no shell and a very small perfectly formed egg about the size of a big thumb nail.  I have had the odd egg with no shell before but not a small egg.  Anyone got any ideas as to the cause for this.  My chooks have a sand run & I do give them regular oyster shell.  cheers.

These very small eggs are not unusual  :)  They're known as "wind" eggs and if you have a look in the Hen House, poultry stickies there will be chapter and verse on them  :)

The oyster shell and mixed grit should be available to your birds at all times in their covered run (to keep it clean) I used to put mine in a plant pot as the holes allow drainage
