I've showed the wife the pic of the Zinnias. Very, very impressive. I've now got to grow some for 2010. Furthermore, Zinnias can be used has cut flowers. What other bedding flowers can I grow which also can be used has cut flowers? I've only got a small flower garden. Soil is clay. But, I have added plenty of old horse manure. The area is enclosed.
Any/all information much appreciated. Thanks.

Stand by for a tidal-wave   :D   You'll get a list as long as your arm.    :D

For easy to grow, no fuss, and don't flop in the vase, I love Sweet Williams.  Recently, I've come to appreciate dahlias (some of the smaller-growing ones are beautiful).

Ah, I almost forgot Sweet peas.  They must be NUMBER ONE.  Even if only for the perfume. Don't take up too much space if grown on a little teepee, or on a fence.
Good luck with the zinnias, though.

They are special.  None of mine germinated :sulk:

You're not alone Sheila, none of mine did either. But I was overrun with monster cosmos, calendulas and borage plants. The latter had to be staked, they were so huge and flopped over the veggies. I'd planted them in the veg beds. Think I'll have to ease off on the chicken poo next year.

Can't give any advice on germination really. I think I sowed em about the end of march. Or was it the beginning ?    But they all came up.

This is what you call a really helpful post

They are so beautiful,I will also be ordering seeds to grow on allotment next year.
Do the bugs like them?
I was thinking of planting them next to my runner beans.
if you want to be happy for a short time, get drunk; happy for a long time, fall in love; happy for ever, take up gardening

You won't believe it, Sid, but no greenfly, no caterpillars, no mildew.    :D   :D

The stems and leaves are stiff and bristly, which is maybe what discourages the 'suckers'.
